Can an eating disorder look different than just always not eating?

Eating disorders are not always cut and dry. The simple answer to this question is yes, eating disorders don’t have to be something as simple as not eating. It can be a common belief that eating disorders are just a choice to make oneself skinnier, but this is not the case. Psychiatry.org defines eating disorders as behavioral conditions characterized by severe and persistent disturbance in eating behaviors and associated distressing thoughts and emotions. Eating disorders affect one’s physical, psychological, and social functions. Anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa are two very common types of eating disorders, but they don’t always look like this. My suggestion for you, dear reader, is to please see a therapist. I understand that it may not be the greatest of options for you, but it is so much more helpful than you might think. I’m not licensed to give you medical advice, but a therapist is. You can get much more helpful advice from a therapist. And whatever you’re going through, we at RISE are here for you.

I’ve been feeling really jealous of a good friend of mine for the accomplishments they’ve made. It feels like every “one step” for me is ten steps for them. What should I do?

I totally understand you. Comparing yourself to your friends is a difficult thing not to do. The only thing I can really recommend for this is to focus on your own achievements. When your friend tells you about their accomplishments congratulate them, but also remember that there is a difference between your accomplishments and theirs. One step for you might not be one step for someone else. Focus on what excites you, and you’ll find that your goals will become even more meaningful to you.

How to set boundaries?

Boundaries are something everyone should have. You can start setting boundaries by evaluating what you want to do and are comfortable with, then making those things known. Keep an ability to compromise, but don’t allow yourself to give up your comfort and well-being for it. Boundaries really vary depending on the person, but don’t compromise your comfort and well-being for the opinions of others.

How do I make money as an artist?

There are many ways to make money as an artist. You could try direct selling your original works, and that would get you a higher payment, but it makes it to where that artwork is not available afterwards. One remedy to that problem is by selling prints. Making prints of your art will be lower pay but it makes it steadier and more accessible. You can also do commission-based work, getting paid to make specific pieces for only one client. Crowdfunding is a common way to make money, utilizing platforms like Patreon, Ko-Fi, and Kickstarter allow you to offer an incentive for people who pay more, and to get a steady stream of low income.
